The Undergraduate Certificate in Space Science provides you with foundational knowledge to pursue further studies via the Bachelor of Space Science degree that will prepare you for an exciting career in the space industry. By completing the Undergraduate Certificate in Space Science you will acquire key skills in mathematics, problem solving and engineering. These fundamental skills will be applied to real-world problems encountered in the space industry such as space weather prediction or spacecraft orbit tracking. By the end of the program you will have an appreciation of the main companies operating in Australia in the space industry and how your studies relate to their products, services and operational capabilities.
You will experience a wide range of learning environments through a combination of online and face-to-face activities. These include lectures, tutorials, laboratory practical activities, individual and group work. Lectures, tutorials and seminars are used extensively in the program to communicate knowledge and ideas about the role of space science in society.
The program is delivered online, however some activities may require face-to-face attendance in RMIT City Campus.

Successful completion of an Australian Year 12 senior secondary certificate of education, or equivalent.

Prerequisites
Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) prerequisite units 3 and 4 - a study score of at least 20 in one of Mathematical Methods (CAS) or Specialist Mathematics; and a study score of at least 30 in English (EAL) or at least 25 in any other English.
English language requirements
A minimum IELTS (Academic module) overall score of 6.5, with no band below 6.0, or equivalent. For equivalents to English entry requirements, see the English equivalents web page.

The space science program has strong links with industry through its Industry Advisory Committee and through research and teaching collaborations. Many program teaching staff are from local industry or have extensive previous industry experience and well-developed contact networks, and many are currently engaged in industry-funded research projects. These attributes, when integrated into teaching and courseware development, ensure that your learning experience is industry-relevant.
