Census dates explained

The census date is the deadline by which you must take certain actions, such as drop a course or cancel your program without financial penalty. The census date applies to each course you are enrolled in.

Do not ignore your census date or it will cost you financially.

Note: Census dates cannot be extended.

* Check with your RMIT school to confirm the census dates for Summer and Spring courses. The census dates may vary depending on your commencement date.

You can complete many of these actions online. Access Enrolment Online by logging in to myRMIT.

Apply for leave of absence from your program.

Eligible students can do this online.

Cancel your enrolment (drop all courses in your program).

You will have to pay for any study you are enrolled in even if you are no longer attending classes.**

Provide your Tax File Number to defer (if eligible) your student contribution, or pay your student contribution up-front in order to obtain a 10% discount if you are enrolled in a Commonwealth supported place.

Your enrolment will be cancelled for the semester due to HESA non-compliance.

Make a full up-front payment of your student contribution in person if you are not eligible to defer your fees i.e. Permanent resident or New Zealand Citizen.

* If the census date falls on a weekend or public holiday and you need to complete the action in person, the deadline to do so is 5pm on the last business day before the census date.

** If you are a commencing international student and have enrolled in the first semester of a program, financial penalties may apply for cancelling your enrolment before or after the census date. Refer to the student refund policy.
