Approach to learning and assessment

Over the duration of the program students will experience a variety of teaching and learning approaches. Each approach will be tailored to the course’s core curriculum areas and graduate capabilities. It is important for students to note that they will be treated as an ‘adult learner’. In conjunction with teacher-directed learning activities, students are expected to take responsibility for self-learning in a mature and independent way. Engaging in self-learning process is part of everyday life in work places; hence the value of this program to the future career prospects of students is enhanced by students’ participating in learning activities.

The styles of teaching, assessment, and learning techniques throughout the program will include (but not limited to):

Classroom teaching: May include lectures, class presentations, group discussions, student-led discussions etc. This style of learning is designed to maximise students’ understanding of the curriculum content and developing appropriate skills. It is designed to provide an environment where students can ask questions and seek feedback as well as contribute to class discussion and apply theory to practice.

Flexible delivery: The program will include the use of online resources. These are designed to enhance student experience by providing ongoing access and the flexibility to study when and where the student wants. These may include resources such as lecture notes, videos, assessments preparation and interactive tools such as discussion boards.

Problem-Based Learning: Problem-based learning engages you in analytical thinking, research and provision of solutions to real-world scenarios and situations.

Cooperative learning: Enables you to work in collaborative team-based tasks.

Assignments and projects

These may be either research or problem based, and will be undertaken on both an individual and team basis. These assessments will provide students with experience at undertaking research and writing effectively to present findings and recommendations to a range of audiences.

In-class tests: Provide students with formative feedback on their early understanding of the respective courses, curriculum and learning goals. This feedback will assist students in further developing their skills and abilities.

Projects: These authentic assessments provide students with the opportunity to demonstrate their understanding and application of digital marketing principles to a real or simulated client brief. This will prepare students with the practical tools and skills needed in their future career.

Students with a long-term medical condition and/or another form of disability who are registered under RMIT University Vietnam’s Equitable Learning Service (ELS) may apply to vary the aspects of the learning or assessment methods accordingly. Students can contact the Program Coordinator or the RMIT University Equitable Learning Service (ELS) for more information: https://www.rmit.edu.vn/students/support/wellbeing-support/equitable-learning-service

Academic integrity

The university uses software to monitor the academic integrity of students’ work, for example Turnitin, which is a software-based plagiarism monitor used to verify the originality of all written assignments submitted by a student. More information on academic integrity is located at: http://www.rmit.edu.au/academicintegrity/students.

Work integrated learning

RMIT is committed to providing students with an education that links formal learning with workplace experience. Students enrolled in an RMIT program will:

  • Undertake and be assessed on a structured activity that allows them to learn, apply and demonstrate their professional or vocational practice.
  • Interact with industry and community when undertaking this activity.
  • Complete an activity in a work context or situation that may include teamwork with other students from different disciplines.
  • Have their learning underpinned by feedback from interactions and contexts distinctive to workplace experiences.

In this program, there is an internship placement where the students must undertake one semester of 12 weeks of work experience in a digital marketing position. Students will enrol in the Internship course, BUSM4655 Flagship Internship (Business).

Three other work-integrated learning courses include MKTG1431 Social Media and Mobile Marketing, MKTG1508 Contemporary Issues in Digital Marketing and MKTG1471 Digital Marketing Strategy and Planning. Students in these courses will work with suitable industry-based projects identified by the school.

These courses will provide students with opportunities to apply their academic skills to a work-based context. Students will be involved in authentic engagement with industry partners that will provide direct industry feedback on practical performance. They will undertake and be assessed on structured activities that allow them to learn, apply and demonstrate professional practice. These WIL activities/ learning opportunities may be in the form of industry-based projects or placement, and they may vary in different locations and/or with different cohorts
