Course Description

This capstone course for Pharmaceutical Science will prepare you for future employment through applied topics important to your future career in pharmaceutical sciences or related industry.

Career skills including writing a good resume and preparing for interview will expose you to relevant transferable life skills. You will develop essential professional competencies, achieving a key university priority ‘learning through life and work’. The course maximises peer to peer collaborative learning, reflecting the increased importance of teamwork to future employment.

In the second half of the course research, critical thinking, problem solving, and communication skills are emphasised within the capstone project where you will actively integrate and apply knowledge from your pharmaceutical science degree to evaluate a real-world scenario.


Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development

This course contributes to the following Program Learning Outcomes for Pharmaceutical Sciences BP311:

  1. Develop a broad and coherent body of knowledge particularly in biochemistry, physiology, pharmacology and toxicology.
  2. Adapt knowledge, concepts and skills to problem solve.
  3. Develop skills to effectively communicate, both orally and written.
  4. Apply initiative and judgement and adapt knowledge and skills.
  5. Accountable for your own learning, demonstrating safe and ethical professional conduct.


Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to:

  1. Develop successful ways to present yourself in both written and oral form that showcases your qualifications and education, experience and skills
  2. Determine through investigation and research an organisation’s role within industry and their requirements in terms of skills and experience for individual positions
  3. Present yourself for interview in the best prepared and professional light
  4. Plan, conduct and present a group research project that demonstrate the integrated knowledge and skills you have developed in your Pharmaceutical Sciences degree.
  5. Demonstrate responsibility and accountability for own learning and professional practice as part of a team.


Overview of Learning Activities

You will be actively engaged in a range of learning activities such as lectorials, tutorials, practicals, laboratories, seminars, project work, class discussion, individual and group activities. Delivery may be face to face, online or a mix of both.

You are encouraged to be proactive and self-directed in your learning, asking questions of your lecturer and/or peers and seeking out information as required, especially from the numerous sources available through the RMIT library, and through links and material specific to this course that is available through myRMIT Studies Course.
