Course Description
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to make simple modifications to existing patterns for textile products. Textile products may be apparel or other non-wearable items. Types of modifications may include adding opening or closure, lengthening or shortening, adding seams and applying pockets.
In this course you will acquire the skills and knowledge required to modify patterns to create basic styles. It applies to the modification of existing styled patterns to create new styles with minimal modification,conducted according to defined procedures.

Before starting any sewing activities, you will need to understand the process of organising yourself and the workload that needs to be completed. We will work through activities and scenarios to identify strategies to create a detailed workplan for modifying two (2) existing patterns to create two (2) new styles. You will learn why it is important to document the required modifications, expected timeframes, processes and equipment and outcome objectives so that you can plan to achieve the work in the timeframe allocated. You will learn how to organize sewing operations for efficient production using assembly plans and use industry style documents to track different processes. You will learn about laws and legislation that protect everyone in the workplace and the responsibilities of different people.

You will showcase all the practical patternmaking and sewing skills that you have developed over the entire program and combine them with newly developed design communication and costing skills in a final assessment.
