Course Description

This course describes the skills and knowledge required to work respectfully with people from diverse social and cultural groups and situations, including Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people.

Overview of Assessment

Assessment Tasks- 

You must demonstrate Performance and Knowledge Evidence of the unit in order to be deemed competent. 
Assessment methods have been designed to measure achievement of each competency in a flexible manner over a range of assessment tasks.

Competency based training requires you to be in attendance in order for assessment to be undertaken.

Feedback will be provided throughout the semester in class and/or online discussions.


Assessment Tasks

Assessment Tash 1: Knowledge Questions

This assessment comprises 24 short-answer questions which are aligned to the topics covered in this course.  Students will submit this assessment online via CANVAS and will be assessed as Satisfactory/Not Satisfactory.

Assessment Task 2 - Three Client Interactions

Students are required to communicate with a client/ peer in a simulated environment
that reflects workplace conditions. Note that this is one of three identical tasks. For each of the tasks students will choose a different diversity characteristic, which may include age, gender, transgender, culture, race, ethnicity, spiritual beliefs, English as a Second Language (ESL) background.   Each interaction will be recorded t and will be submitted via Canvas.   To assess students' competency, the assessor will use an observational checklist and students will also complete a self-reflection for each interaction.  Students work will be assessed as Satisfactory/Not Satisfactory.

If due to illness or other unforeseen circumstance, you are unable to attend on the due date of an assessment (e.g. test, examination, oral, etc.) OR you do attend, but your performance has been affected, you may submit an APPLICATION FOR SPECIAL CONSIDERATION within 2 working days of the due date. If Special Consideration is granted, you will be given the opportunity to complete/repeat the assessment task at a later date. For advice on this application please visit www.rmit.edu.au/students/specialconsideration  or speak to your Program Coordinator.

If due to illness or other unforeseen circumstance, you are unable to submit by the due date (e.g. assignment, report, project etc.): you may submit an APPLICATION FOR EXTENSION OF TIME FOR SUBMISSION OF ASSESSABLE WORK for an extension of time of up to seven (7) calendar days or less. This must be lodged with the Program Coordinator 1 working day before the original due date. If granted, you will have the opportunity to submit up to 7 days later than the original due date. For advice on this application please visit www.rmit.edu.au/students/assessment/extension or speak to your Program Coordinator.

RESUBMISSIONS: 

For each assessment you will be given up to two (2) attempts, however, to be granted the second attempt at any assessment, your first attempt must be an appropriate attempt to try and gain a satisfactory outcome. For example, you must appropriately attempt each question or aspect of the assessment task.If your first attempt fails to meet the above standard, you may not be eligible for a second attempt at that task.A third (3rd) attempt can only be offered after discussions between teacher and the Program Coordinator and is not automatic


You are expected to prepare all assignments and other written work in a professional manner. More information on general academic study and writing skills can be found on the “Learning Lab” http://emedia.rmit.edu.au/learninglab/ . All work submitted for assessment must be submitted electronically unless otherwise advised.

Students must keep a copy of all submitted assessments including electronic copies.
