Course Description

This unit of competency describes the skills and knowledge required to manage outsourced supply chain operations. It includes planning and confirming contracted services, determining the capacity of contracted services, managing contracted services and reporting on contracted services.

Outsourced supply chain operations, Third/Fourth Party Logistics (3PL/4PL) contracted services, typically use a variety of resources, capabilities and technology to manage parts or complete supply chain operations. Contracted services can include transportation, warehousing, inventory management, container receipt and de-stuffing, order management and processing, cross docking, sourcing, procure to pay, customs brokerage and freight forwarding.

The unit is applicable to those with team leadership responsibilities within a supply chain.

Details of Learning Activities

This unit will be co-delivered and co-assessed with BSBPRC504 - Manage a supply chain - as a cluster is entitled "Manage outsourced operations and the supply chain".

The delivery of this cluster will be face to face on-campus.

The activities will include some elements of lecture style, some research-based and self directed learning. There will be a large part of the activities incorporating simulated business meetings, in class.

The emphasis will be mainly on interactive learning.

Overview of Assessment

Assessment conditions

Assessors must hold credentials specified within the Standards for Registered Training Organisations current at the time of assessment.

Assessment must satisfy the Principles of Assessment and Rules of Evidence and all regulatory requirements included within the Standards for Registered Training Organisations current at the time of assessment.

Assessment must occur in workplace operational situations where it is appropriate to do so. Where this is not appropriate, assessment must occur in simulated workplace operational situations that replicate workplace conditions.

Assessment processes and techniques must be appropriate to the language, literacy and numeracy requirements of the work being performed and the needs of the candidate.

Resources for assessment must include access to a range of

  • exercises, case studies or other simulations
  • materials and tools including digital supply chain equipment used in industry
  • documentation including organisational policies and procedures, industry standards, regulations, codes of practice, operational manuals and equipment specifications.

Summary and Purpose of Assessment

This short-answer assessment task is one (1) of two (2) assessment tasks you need to complete.

Both assessments need to be completed satisfactorily in order to be deemed competent for this cluster of two (2) units.

This assessment task allows you to demonstrate your knowledge of managing a supply chain and outsourcing supply chain operations in accordance with relevant organisational objectives.

Summary and Purpose of Assessment

This product assessment task is the final of two assessment tasks you need to complete satisfactorily, in order to be deemed competent for this unit.

This assessment will allow you to demonstrate your ability to manage a supply chain, including the commercial and technical capabilities to ensure outcomes achieve organisational objectives.

What

In this assessment consists of (2) parts.

Part A:

You are required to complete a portfolio workbook (template on Canvas Assessment menu) which includes multiple tasks.

Part B:

Presentation to management

You are to present details of analysis outcomes to management for approval to proceed for drafting a new SOP (Standard Operational Procedure) based on a transfer from their current ‘Push’ systems to a new ‘Pull’ system based on the changing demand environment.
