Course Description

This unit of competency describes the skills and knowledge required to monitor ethical practices in supply chains. It includes determining ethical supply chain functions, monitoring ethical practices and reporting on ethical supply chain practices.

Ethical supply chains seek to ensure that sustainable labour, supply and environmental practices are fair. Participating in an ethical supply chain will involve conducting due diligence to confirm the integrity of suppliers, contractors, agents and other intermediaries. Unethical supply chains typically do not comply with legislative obligations, codes of practice or agreed industry standards.

The unit is applicable to those with management or team leadership responsibilities within a supply chain.

No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Details of Learning Activities

This unit will be co-delivered and co-assessed with MSS014015 - Improve sustainability through readily implementable change - as a cluster is entitled "Ethical and Sustainability Practices in the Supply Chain".

The delivery of this cluster will be face to face on-campus.

The activities will include some elements of lecture style, some research-based and self directed learning. There will be a large part of the activities incorporating simulated business meetings, in class.

The emphasis will be mainly on interactive learning.

Overview of Assessment

Assessment conditions

Assessors must hold credentials specified within the Standards for Registered Training Organisations current at the time of assessment.

Assessment must satisfy the Principles of Assessment and Rules of Evidence and all regulatory requirements included within the Standards for Registered Training Organisations current at the time of assessment.

Assessment must occur in workplace operational situations where it is appropriate to do so. Where this is not appropriate, assessment must occur in simulated workplace operational situations that replicate workplace conditions.

Assessment processes and techniques must be appropriate to the language, literacy and numeracy requirements of the work being performed and the needs of the candidate.

Resources for assessment must include access to a range of

  • exercises, case studies or simulations
  • materials, tools and digital supply chain equipment used in industry
  • documentation including organisational policies and procedures, industry standards, legislation, regulations, codes of practice, operational manuals and equipment specifications.

Assessment Tasks

Assessment Task 1 - Simulated Meeting and Workbook Tasks

Due: Week 7

Summary and Purpose of Assessment
This assessment task is the first (1) of three (3) tasks you need to complete successfully to be deemed competent for each of the two (2) units that make up this cluster, namely, MSS014015 Improve sustainability through readily implementable change and TLIX0020X Monitor ethical supply chain practices.

This assessment consists of two (2) parts, each contain multiple parts. These are designed to assess the skills and knowledge to assess existing sustainability and ethical policies to implement change in line with market demands, business sustainability and potential compliance requirements.

Assessment Instructions:

Part A:

What

All three (3) assessments, (except knowledge test), are based on a fictitious company, as a case study. Additional case study details and resources are available on Canvas.

In this assessment part, you are required to participate in one (1) simulated live stakeholders’ meeting to review the organisation’s current ethical practice and sustainability policies of the case study/company, regarding changes and provide evidence (as instructed). You are to form a working group of approximately four (4) student members (stakeholders) to work as a project team to review the current ethical and sustainability policies.

Section B below (Part A), of this assessment guide, contains additional instructions. Please read through and become familiar with the case and task to assist with an early start in preparation.

It is strongly suggested that all your assessment tasks be worked on progressively throughout the semester as your class learnings are applied.

Where

This simulated live meeting will take place on campus, during a face-to-face class in the presence of an assessor. Your assessor will provide you with details of the class location. You will conduct all the live meetings in a simulated environment, which reflect real workplace conditions.

How

You are required to download the assessment task workbook (part B) and “resource pack” from Canvas, complete instructed tasks, then upload the documents onto the Canvas assessment submission platform. You will be assessed against the criteria listed in the marking guide – Section B (Part A) below. You must address all criteria satisfactorily.

Although you will be working in teams when conducting the meetings, you will be assessed individually against the criteria that are listed in the observation checklist.

Part B:

Complete section 1 of the assessment workbook template.

· You have been provided with an assessment workbook template (download from Canvas).

· The workbook has been divided into three (3) sections, each section includes tasks to complete for each of your 3 assessments. Additional student instructions for completion and submission are included of the workbook.

Workbook and Task Overview

· The workbook is to be based on the fictitious company case study.

· You are required to complete a number of tasks and produce a series of documents/evidence to include in the workbook. Additional information has also been provided in the assessment “resource pack”.

· Refer and become familiar with the template and the tasks required. It is strongly recommended that you complete the tasks progressively throughout the semester.

· The workbook template consists of three (3) main sections, details listed below.

· All sections need to be completed satisfactorily to be deemed competent.

This assessment consists of two (2) parts – Part A and Part B. Each also contain multiple parts.

Part A:

This part allows you to demonstrate your knowledge of managing and improving sustainability within your supply chain and ethical practices.

· You have ten (10) questions to answer in SECTION B of this assessment guide (below)

· Some questions may include multiple parts and you must satisfactorily answer all parts of all 8 questions

· You should answer all questions in the spaces provided, using full sentences unless otherwise instructed

· Each space also provides an area to include referencing, if applied/appropriate

· This is an individual assessment task and must be your own work

Part B:

This part is designed to assess the skills and knowledge to assess existing sustainability and ethical policies to implement change in line with market demands, business sustainability and potential compliance requirements.
