Course Description

introduction to the workflow and stylistic opportunities afforded by game development. You will work in groups and individually to develop a small folio of finished art and design artifacts designed for games.

The course is framed by a focus on the game development environment and developing an understanding of principles and techniques.


Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development

Program Learning Outcomes 

In this course you will develop the following program learning outcomes:  

  • Apply game art and game design production methods, in both individual and group capacities, to solve creatively generated problems.
  • Develop a technical and conceptual portfolio relevant to game art and design and other forms of interactive entertainment.
  • Work with others in a range of roles and contexts, demonstrating cultural, environmental and social awareness and ethical and reflective practice.


Course Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to:

  1. Describe and apply the core elements of game production and describe the games workflow from both the group and individual perspective.
  2. Identify and apply core principles of game scripting and game programming.
  3. Create and deploy simple prototypes for both non-digital and digital game types.
  4. Examine some creative challenges implicit in the games design environment.
  5. Reflect on and evaluate your own and others work.

You will be actively engaged in learning that involves a range of activities such as studios, project work, lectures, tutorials, class discussion, individual and group activities.

You will be assessed on how well you meet the course’s learning outcomes and on your development against the program learning outcomes. 

 

Assessment Tasks

  2. Game Art Development 30% (CLO 1, 2, 4)
  3. Game Environment Portfolio 35% (CLO 1, 2, 3, 4, 5)
