Pre-requisite Courses and Assumed Knowledge and Capabilities
While there are no formal pre-requisites for this course, students are reminded that this is an intermediate level course. It is designated as a second year (mid-degree) subject in the Bachelor of Business (International Business). This course is deemed unsuitable for students who have less than 96 credit points (1 years worth) of previous HE study experience. If you have any questions or doubts about whether you should enrol or not in this course, please contact the course coordinator.
Course Description
This course introduces you to contemporary corporate social responsibility (CSR) theories and practice in a global context, and the implications for business managers and for society. In the last 30 years the growing power and influence of corporations, and a series of corporate scandals and financial crises, have highlighted the challenges associated with corporate social and environmental responsibility and accountability for leaders and communities across the globe. Employers are increasingly looking for staff who can address such issues innovatively, proactively and effectively across all business functions. In this course you will learn how to take social and environmental issues into account in core international business models and strategy, and how to work with a range of stakeholders to improve outcomes for society throughout the value chains of global business. You will be exposed to new ways of understanding and governing the relationship between business and society. Activities and assignments are designed to facilitate theory application and peer learning in a friendly, open atmosphere.
