Pre-requisite Courses and Assumed Knowledge and Capabilities

All year one and year two courses (pre-requisite) Producing for the Digital Economy (pre-requisite)

Course Description

For this course, you will propose and develop an original fiction or non-fiction digital film or video project. Within a team, you will develop a detailed proposal including a creative pitch, a draft storyboard and a project plan that outlines proposed form and scale of the project; the main project roles and the people involved; resource, logistical and technical requirements; and stages and timelines. Teams will execute selected projects in a series of well-defined stages, with each team member performing an assigned role. You will critically evaluate the final project and assess opportunities for future project progression.   This is the designated Work Integrated Learning (WIL) course for the Bachelor of Digital Film and Video program. This course includes a work integrated learning experience in which your knowledge and skills will be applied and assessed in a real or simulated workplace context and where feedback from industry and/ or community is integral to your experience. In so doing, this course provides essential preparation for COMM2695 Media and Communication Internship.

Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development

Upon successful completion of the course you will be able to:

  1. Lead the development, direction and production of an original digital film and video project and reflect on outcomes.
  2. Apply storytelling, technical and production skills to the making of an original digital film and video project.
  3. Plan the distribution of an original digital film and video work.

In the course you will develop the following program learning outcomes:

3. Develop narratives and screenplays and achieve storytelling outcomes for digital film and video

4. Select and use contemporary tools, methods and approaches to envision, develop and produce digital film and video work

5. Communicate with a range of stakeholders to plan, organise, execute and evaluate team-based and self-managed digital film and video projects

6. Apply critical and creative thinking skills and use self-reflection to develop ethical and professional capabilities

Overview of Learning Activities

In this course you will integrate your existing contextual and technical knowledge – and your applied experience thus far – to develop your own digital film or video project. This will require you to lead and take ownership of creative, technical and conceptual elements of the project, and to manage the development, production and post-production of your work. While this project will be student-led, you will actively engage with peers and teachers to ensure that each stage of the project is properly planned, supported and managed.

Overview of Learning Resources

You will have access to technical resources such as camera, lighting, sound recording equipment and editing tools, as well as studio-based learning spaces.  You will be provided with diverse learning and teaching resources, including web-based resources, library collections, and online learning content.
