Learning and teaching

The MBA is delivered in 3 study periods - Semester 1, Semester 2 and a spring/summer study period:

• Full-time students will study 4 courses per study period and classes are typically held during the day.
• Part-time students will study 2 courses per study period and classes are typically held during the evening.

Your classes will be held at the Emily McPherson Building, a magnificent heritage property on the corner of Russell Street and Victoria Parade.

Facilities include a student lounge, conference suite and high-tech lecture theatres and classrooms.

RMIT offers a variety of learning and teaching approaches including lectures, seminars, studios, workshops, presentations, group discussions and syndicate work. These are primarily in English.

You will have access to the Learning Hub and other online and digital resources through the myRMIT student portal.

Ongoing assessment throughout the semester includes examinations, essays, reports, oral classes, presentations, group projects, research projects, laboratory projects and practical assignments.

Program structure

You must complete 144 credit points that equal 12 courses (12 credit points each). This includes 11 compulsory courses and 1 elective course.

Each intake of students commences with a course that introduces business management in the global context and finishes with a capstone course drawing together all of your learning.

Professional recognition and accreditation

Depending on courses undertaken and experience, graduates may be eligible for associate or full membership of a number of professional bodies.

• The Australian Institute of Training and Development
• The Industrial Relations Society of Victoria.

International study tours are a unique feature of the program allowing you to combine an overseas travel and cultural experience with the completion of either a 12 or 24 credit point course in intensive mode.

Each year, the Graduate School of Business and Law conducts study intensives to Vietnam and France, equivalent to one 12-credit point elective.

You must meet the University entry requirements for this type of program.

If you satisfy the following requirements you will be eligible for selection; however, there is no guarantee that you will be selected as demand for the program varies each intake.

Program entry requirements

A Bachelor degree in any discipline from a recognised tertiary institution, with a minimum average of 65% or Credit or GPA 2.5 (out of 4.0).

Applicants with a GPA between 2.0 and 2.5 will be considered on additional capabilities like work experience.

Application method

Tuition fees vary according to each program and are adjusted annually.

There are two tuition fee types:

• full fees where you will be responsible for the full cost
• Commonwealth supported place (CSP) fees where your tuition fee is shared between you and the Commonwealth Government if you meet the eligibility criteria. There are only a small number of CSPs available.

Emily McPherson Scholarship - MBA Scholarship

Each year the Graduate School of Business and Law offers a full tuition-fee annulment scholarship for an outstanding graduate to undertake the Master of Business Administration (MBA) program full-time.

As a full fee-paying student, you may be eligible to apply for the optional FEE-HELP loan scheme to assist you to pay all or part of your tuition fees.

As a Commonwealth supported student, you may be able to either:

• pay all or part of your student contribution up front and receive a 10% discount, or
• defer payment through the HECS-HELP loan scheme.

Other fees

Additional expenses can include textbooks, stationery, printer paper, internet access fees outside of the RMIT campus and other relevant costs.

In addition to tuition fees you will also pay the Student services and amenities fee (SSAF). You may be able to defer the fee through the SA-HELP loan scheme.

There may be other additional expenses and administrative fees associated with your studies.

Postgraduates of business or management studies or who have partially completed an MBA somewhere else with similar entry criteria similar may be accepted. Credits or exemptions may be granted.
