Successful completion of ARCH 1094, ARCH 1095, ARCH 1096 and ARCH 1097 (Technical Studies 1 ,2,3 and 4).


Course Description

The Interior Design Technical Studies electives expand on the principles of Interior Architecture and Design technology introduced in ARCH 1094 and ARCH 1095.
The content and themes of the different Technical Studies Electives can and do change from semester to semester.
At the beginning of each semester posters describing that semesters offerings are on display in the Interior Design Gallery Space on Level 11 Building 8 RMIT City Campus. Students ballot for specilisations they wish to take and are allocated a place in a particular class.


Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development

In each semester a range of technical subject courses are offered in the program.
The courses offered aim to:

-Foster confidence and imagination in the design and detailing of Interiors.
-Equip students with the necessary technical skills to design, specify, document and administer a wide variety of tasks specific to the practice of Interior architecture and design.


 

Students are provided with a broad range of technical studies relevant to the practice of Interior Architecture and Design.

This course aims to:

-Imbue students with the perception and knowledge of environmentally sustainable materials, systems and building practices.
-Develop a complete understanding of the scope of thinking associated with the design and installation of interior environmental systems and services.
-Introduce students to the specific skills of trade and crafts people.


Overview of Learning Activities

These courses are run as a series of seminars offered each semester. Students choose the particular area that is of interest and relevant to their level of study

Subjects will be offered as;
- Lectures series and tutorials where appropriate specialists in related fields will present their expertise
- Computer seminar workshops where CAD skills and software will be taught in intense courses.
- Construction workshop studies where materials, structure and construction methods will be designed and tested
- Acoustic and lighting workshops where the qualities of sound and light will be studied, expressed and recorded.

Assessment grades: HDH (80-100%), DID (70-79%), CRC (60-69%), PAP (50-59%), NNN
