Course Description
The course studies the language of screen narrative with emphasis on practical production methodologies. Students are instructed on the elements of preproduction, production, and postproduction of moving image narrative.
Lectures and workshops explore conventions and strategies for sequencing images and are integrated with group analysis of historical examples and student work. All exercises will be contextualised within the framework of spatiotemporal ‘continuity’ as the dominant narrative idiom against which innovations and variations are defined.
Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development
To assist students to:
1. Refine a script to production readiness.
2. Translate script into storyboarded visual sequences.
3. Execute visual sequences through the production stage.
4. Edit and complete a short narrative production.
5. Analyse moving image sequences for artistic proficiency.
Overview of Learning Activities
Narrative concepts and their application will be explored via class lectures, screenings and student projects, with the opportunity to discuss and critique
these outcomes in class, in one on one consultations with the lecturer, and in the combined Media Arts reviews.

Overview of Assessment
Assessment is based on work completed at the pre-production, production and postproduction stages of a major narrative project. All students attend the workshops and reviews held throughout the year to present their work for group feedback and to see/listen to other students work.
In addition:
Participation in Mid Semester Reviews
Class presentation of project work in Week 12
Individual Final Assessment in Week 14
