Statistics and probability at third year undergraduate level.


Course Description

This course further develops the techniques and theory of statistical modelling needed to effectively contribute to theoretical and applied research in real world applications of physical, biological and economic systems.


Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development

You will improve or gain capabilities to apply statistical procedures to real-world situations and carry out appropriate statistical analysis of data.


On successful completion of the course, you will be able to:
• perform exploratory analysis of data collected within your field of specialisation;
• understand and apply statistical methods to real world situations;
• use statistical software packages to analyse data.


Overview of Learning Activities

You must select three approved topics of one semester duration from the list provided by the Course Leader. The selected topics should not be a part of any other Honours subject. Each approved topic will be taught for two hours a week during one semester. These topics provide an introduction to the theoretical basis and methods of implementation of statistical procedures for solving a variety of statistical problems. Detailed syllabus and references are given with the topics.

Assessment of this course is based on assignment work done during the semester and three end of semester examinations.
