Course Description
This is a practical course where you will learn how to integrate information communication technologies into primary education curriculum. You will look at both how and why teachers are using ICT in the classroom and develop your own multimedia tools to use with your students.
Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development
The learning objectives relate to the course capabilities and consider the role of new technologies and ICT in society and for learning and teaching. At the conclusion of this course it is expected that pre-service teachers will be able to:
• Consider the ways in which ICT and associated uses enhance or detract from the quality of our lives
• Examine the role of ICT and its appropriate application for learning in educational contexts
• Critically review and create strategies to facilitate the incorporation of ICT across curricula for the 21st century
• Understand the ways in which new models for education can shape and be shaped by ICT

Overview of Learning Activities
This is a hands-on elective where the skills you develop will be related to the context of primary education curriculum. You will:
• learn how to develop engaging and practical curriculum that meets the needs of learners in the 21st century.
• develop a WebQuest for a student class using film, audio, images and web pages.
• create tools for enabling your students to look critically at websites.
• design an item to put into your teaching portfolio on what ICT means to you.
You will make a film, edit it and learn to use audio editing programs

You have access to extensive course materials on the online RMIT Learning Hub, including digitised readings, a WebQuest study program, external internet links and access to RMIT Library online and hardcopy resources
Overview of Assessment
The assessment tasks in this course will enable you to integrate information communication technology into your teaching curriculum. You will design a web site evaluation form, a WebQuest and a piece of work for your teaching portfolio, which will explore what ICT means to you and how you would integrate ICT into your classroom.
Participation in the online Discussion Forum is required to receive a pass in this course.
