Course Description

This course examines issues related to organisational change where organisations seek to bring about fundamental change in either the work, direction, capability and/or operation of the organisation, or where organisations seek to influence, perhaps to fundamentally reshape, the environment in which they operate. The need for transformation can be driven by external demands and issues arising from the broad operating environment and context, through policy and legislative changes, or through internal processes of organisational review.

The course will bring together theoretical understanding of change management perspectives, and Work Integrated Learning (WIL) case studies from a range of public sector and not for profit organisations. The case studies identified offer examples of change management practices which include the use of leadership, advocacy, strategy, power, education and culture to generate change.
 


Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development

Upon successful completion of the course you will be able to:

  • Select and apply appropriate change management theory and processes;
  • Deconstruct and analyse key aspects of organisational capability in response to emerging issues,
    legislative change, shifts in organisational direction, and pressures for innovation;
  • Evaluate and predict the capacity of change management to deliver organisational outcomes; and
  • Effectively research, analyse and present change management proposals and
    reports.



Overview of Learning Activities

You will be assessed on how well you meet the course’s learning outcomes. Assessment will involve a range of group and individual tasks. Assessment tasks may include, but are not limited to case studies, reports, written analysis and workshop presentations. Feedback will be provided throughout the semester by your teachers and peers in class and/or online discussions, and through individual and/or group feedback on practical exercises.

You will be assessed on how well you meet the course’s learning outcomes and on your development against the graduate capabilities.

Assessment tasks may include but are not limited to team work proposals and presentations in relation to conducting case study research in an organisation, and individual written reflection on change management.
