Course Description

Students are required to initiate and sustain a personal body of art research. All aspects of study should be comprehended within historical and contemporary contexts. Individual and group tutorials will be conducted. Students are required to develop and present a project proposal, identifying their field of research and informing their practice.

Work Integrated Learning is incorporated within the Course by a regular program of group and individual critiques in conjunction with the viewing of public exhibitions and regular exposure and involvement with international arts practitioners through Metasenta, projects within The Drawing Space and the international Artist in Residence Program. Students also undertake Work Integrated Learning through the development and planning of a graduate exhibition with accompanying catalogue.

Students should have the capacity to initiate, extend and sustain a personal imagery that can be contextualized within contemporary art practice.



Overview of Learning Activities

Individual studio research and a schedule of individual and group tutorials.

Studio facilities including computer laboratory available, RMIT library resource, no prescribed texts.


Overview of Assessment

Submission of a folio of personally initiated and resolved visual research. Assessment will be conducted by a panel of Drawing staff that includes the lecturer of the Course and the Course Coordinator of the Drawing Studio. Regular attendance is required.
