Course Description

This course is taken in the final semester of the program. The course constitutes the major project work activity for the program and engages you in developing, managing and achieving the objectives of an engineering project. You will work on projects individually or in small groups; however, you will submit individual work.  

Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development

This course is designed to consolidate and expand the knowledge gained throughout the course through an in depth study of a highly technical application.

The course will help you to develop following capabilities:

On completion, the you will have mastered the techniques of:
• Applying appropriate analytical techniques to a substantial manufacturing problem.
• Carrying out an appropriate information search and fundamental experimentation.
• Implementing approved recommendation.
• Compiling and presenting a comprehensive report.

Overview of Learning Activities

Allocated supervisor will guide students through the process of undertaking an engineering project. However, most of the work will be self-directed.

Overview of Learning Resources

These are dependant upon individual project area. Assistance will be provided by the project supervisors. Students are to meet with their supervisor at least fortnightly.

Overview of Assessment

The thesis will be of no more than 100 pages of double spaced 12 point font, including figures. This will be marked by the first supervisor and moderated if necessary by the Course Co-ordinator or other appointed academic staff.
The thesis will be marked based on the quality of the Structure, Program Plan, Content and Presentation of the thesis.
