Course Description

The aim of this course is to enable you to gain experience and develop your knowledge in entrepreneurship into practical skills. The course will assist in the development of your strategic capacity, team and industry relationship skills, personal commitment to an opportunity, and the managed implementation of a high growth launch. A thorough analysis of industry, as well as, implementing business strategies to achieve competitive advantage and understanding cultural impacts upon business practices will be a main focus. The course will also provide you with the opportunity to develop effective leadership skills, negotiate and manage conflict with confidence, train in presentation stage skills as well as improve interpersonal and team communication.

On successful completion of this course you will be able to:

  1. Identify and evaluate unique challenges involved in starting and operating a small business venture in Australia.
  2. Critically analyze the driving forces behind creating and building value in a new venture in diverse contexts to achieve competitive advantage.
  3. Critically evaluate the viability of a new business concept by undertaking an opportunity evaluation and develop strategies to achieve competitive advantage for the business.
  4. Demonstrate your presentation and oral skills in a variety of business and professional contexts while assessing your potential for a career in entrepreneurship.
  5. Apply important workplace skills (e.g., cooperation, teamwork, meeting deadlines, report writing) through group assignments and cooperative learning activities) in diverse business and professional contexts.


Overview of Learning Activities

In this course you will be encouraged to be an active learner. Your learning will be supported through various in-class and online activities comprising individual and group work. These may include quizzes; assignments; prescribed readings; sourcing, researching and analysing specific information; solving problems; conducting presentations; producing written work and collaborating with peers on set tasks or projects.
