To successfully complete this course, you should have the ability to apply your engineering skills and knowledge in the project design and development. You are expected to have completed Professional Engineering Project Part A (EEET2346 or EEET2352). 


Course Description

This course encompasses the continuation of the team project commenced in EEET2346 Professional Engineering Project 3A. It is expected that students will actively participate as a team member to deliver a quality team product by the end of the semester, whilst completing all assessment tasks. 


Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development

This course contributes to the following Program Learning Outcomes for the Master of Engineering:

  1. Be able to apply problem solving approaches to work challenges and make decisions using sound engineering methodologies
  2. Be able to apply a systematic design approach to engineering projects and have strong research and design skills in their stream
  3. Communicate effectively across all modes: listen, speak, write and draw
  4. Apply the principles of lifelong learning to any new challenge
  5. Balance the technical, economic, social and ethical demands of a problem in sustainable and culturally sensitive ways


On successful completion of this course, you will be able to:

  1. Apply critical and creative thinking in the design of engineering projects.
  2. Plan and manage your time effectively as a team.
  3. Consider the business context and commercial positioning of designed devices or systems.
  4. Apply knowledge of the ‘real world’ situations that a professional engineer can encounter.
  5. Utilise fundamental knowledge and skills in engineering and apply it effectively on a project.
  6. Design and develop a functional product prototype while working in a team.
  7. Undertake an engineering project under mentorship.
  8. Reflect on your own and peers’ technical and non-technical learning
  9. Present your product to peers, academics, general and industry community.
  10. Manage any disputes and conflicts within and outside your team.


Overview of Learning Activities

The course will provide you with a number of learning opportunities and includes the following learning activities:

  • The Professional Engineering Project courses provide experiences that meet the requirements of the RMIT Work Integrated Learning (WIL) policy. You work in a team on a project under guidance of a professional engineer (usually an academic "mentor"). The project will require the team to work together to achieve a working product. You will be expected to take more than one role in the team at different times to expand your experience and capabilities.
  • The project is a problem-based learning activity, enabling you to demonstrate your ability to work effectively as a member of a team in order to successfully deliver a product to your client.
