Pre-requisite Courses and Assumed Knowledge and Capabilities
In this course you will learn the importance of specification packs, which allow detailed information to be successfully communicated between design and local /offshore manufacturing and production processes. You will develop a wide range of skills in this area, including how garments are sized. This information will be used to grade a range of patterns in different sizes without compromising the fit and proportion of the garment.
Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development
In this course you will develop the following program learning outcomes:
1. Apply and creatively adapt a body of theoretical and technical knowledge and skills in fashion design and technology to your practice or future study
4. Communicate effectively and collaboratively in a team environment relevant to fashion practice
5. Identify, analyse and reflect on fashion technology in a local and/or global context
7. Apply initiative and judgement in planning, problem solving and decision making in your own work and working as part of a team
Upoon successful completion of this course you will be able to:
• Analyse garment features and fabric characteristics
• Apply your knowledge to evaluate how varying size will affect shape and fit of the garment
• Identify and evaluate the use of specification sheets for different contexts
• Interpret and evaluate data to produce accurate specifications
• Analyse and apply grade rules to patterns including both design and fit requirements
• Create a complete and accurate grade set of patterns.

You will be engaged in learning that involves a range of class activities such as practical exercises, group and class discussion, group activities/projects as well as online and self-directed learning.

Overview of Assessment
You will be assessed on how well you meet the course’s learning outcomes and on your development against the program learning outcomes.
Assessment of this course will cover both practical components of grading and the theoretical and practical requirements of developing specification reports. Assessment may include industry projects and practical assessment tasks based on an industry relevant design brief requirement. You will be able to develop your work in relation to your own specific areas of interest in your professional practice.
Ongoing feedback will be provided to enable you to monitor your own performance including detailed feedback on assessed tasks.
