Course Description

Sourcing materials such as fabrics, trims, or accessories is an important element in the production of fashion products. In this course, you will acquire the skills and knowledge to source materials and resources for production of fashion designs and textiles locally and internationally. Through researching the needs of your clients, and the social and cultural aspects of your target market, you will make appropriate judgements about the acquisition of raw materials.


Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development

In this course you will develop the following program capabilities:

a) Lead and manage own work and other team members or individuals within a fashion and textiles enterprise.

b) Apply sustainable practices related to fashion and textiles issues.

c) Apply analytical decision making techniques in a fashion and textiles environment.

d) Problem solve and apply sustainable practices related to fashion and textiles issues.


Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to:

a) Research and identify client needs for fashion products.

b) Research and analyse sourcing to meet economic, cultural and social needs of the target market.

c) Identify global suppliers of particular raw materials.

d) Identify and analyse distribution mechanisms for fashion and textile products.

The main learning activities in this course include: lectures, workshops, tutorials, case studies, and oral presentations.

You will research, collect and analyse data on sourcing materials locally and internationally.
