Pre-requisite Courses and Assumed Knowledge and Capabilities

You should have satisfactorily completed the pre requisite courses, Fashion Distribution and Logistics, Marketing for Fashion and Textiles and Merchandising Maths, before you commence this course.


Course Description

This course focuses on theories and applications related to the management and retail of fashion and textile products. Throughout this course you will develop skills and knowledge related to researching and applying theories and concepts of merchandise sourcing and fashion trends for a retail context. You will also study the functions of office buying, identifying various types of retail environments and developing relevant retail financial skills.


Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development

In this course you will develop the following program learning outcomes:

a) Lead and manage own work and other team members or individuals within a fashion and textiles enterprise.

b) Apply analytical decision making techniques in a fashion and textiles environment.

c) Identify, research, analyse and manage emerging global issues and trends in the fashion and textiles industry.

d) Evaluate social and cultural values in strategic planning and implementation in a fashion and textiles context.
 


Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to:

a) Develop and present a marketing plan which contributes to the strategic direction of a fashion and textile retail organisation.

b) Apply commercial buying and financial skills to plan the retail of fashion products in a range of formats.

c) Develop and evaluate advertising mediums for a fashion and textile brand.

d) Identify and interpret current and future fashion trends which will affect fashion and textile retailing.

Key concepts and their application will be explained and illustrated in lectures with opportunities to discuss their use in case studies during tutorials and group discussions.
