Course Description

An array of challenging studios is offered in this course.  You will elect to complete one studio.  A studio output may include real-world published outcomes and require working with external clients.

In this studio you will expand on the methodologies developed within previous Animation and Interactive Media studios, and knowledge and practical skills developed within program option courses. Either individually or in a team, you will critically engage with a brief(s) from the Animation and Interactive Media discipline, and develop a research based conceptual solution through to production and final presentation of the solution.


Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development

In this course you will develop the following program learning outcomes:

  • Employ a body of theoretical knowledge of visual systems, narrative structures and navigational forms to communicate animated linear and interactive concepts. 
  • Work with others in a range of roles and contexts, demonstrating cultural, environmental and social awareness and ethical and reflective practice. 
  • Apply initiative and judgment in planning, problem solving and decision making in professional practice or future study. 
  • Apply a body of theoretical and practical knowledge and specific skills in media and communication, in which to base your professional practice or future study.

 

 


Upon the successful completion of this course you will be able to:

  • Apply advanced technical skills and knowledge in a chosen area of the animation and interactive discipline to create substantive works. 
  • Communicate concepts, cultural and thematic contexts and production details to clients, stakeholders and production team members at a professional level. 
  • Work with contextualised briefs to design, develop and complete substantial projects, within the established scope of time and resources. 
  • Investigate and critically analyse the thematic, cultural and technical context of briefs to design appropriate solutions. 
  • Research, evaluate and apply current industry practices to the realisation of substantial projects, and reflect on the outcomes in relation to briefs.


Overview of Learning Activities

You will be actively engaged in learning that involves a range of activities such as studios, project work, lectures, tutorials, class discussion and activities, individual and group activities and individual research.

This course engages you in learning about Animation and Interactive Media via an immersion into the discipline, its methods and practices through set projects. These projects involve a range of planned learning experiences in the studio environment including: individual and group problem solving; idea generation and the iterative development of animated linear or interactive concepts; using preproduction methodologies for the purpose of further refining propositions; and presenting and reflecting on individual and collective learning processes.

The iterative development of concepts through to animated linear or interactive productions includes developing a practice of documenting ideas. Learning activities include workshops, group work, independent inquiry and critique.

The studio format gives you the opportunity to explore thematic/cultural/professional design issues in depth through a variety of approaches. You will explore concepts, techniques and modes of communication through the creation of animated linear or interactive productions that respond to a series of theoretical and technical principles, real and simulated situations and practical constraints. There may also be the opportunity for students from other studios, within this program or external programs, to work alongside you in a setting that encourages peer-to-peer learning through shared experience.

This studio has a number of separate classes offered each focusing on a different project outcome. You will receive details of each class offered and will rank each studio in order of preference. Places available will determine which studio you will be assigned.

If you do not enter your preferences or if you enrol late in the semester you will be assigned a place based on availability.

Overview of Assessment

You will be assessed on how well you meet the course’s learning outcomes and on your development against the program learning outcomes.

Assessment may include studio projects, assignments, critiques, reports and presentations, individually and/or in groups.

Assessment will cover both theoretical and practical aspects of your learning. You will be able to develop your work in relation to your own specific areas of interest in your professional practice.

Feedback will be given on all assessment tasks.

This assessment will cover the following:
