Course Description
In this unit you will develop the knowledge and skills in planning and organising to prepare to cut leather by hand. You will have the opportunity to use simple and complicated pattern pieces and a range of leather qualities.
This course addresses the following units and all these units are clustered for delivery but may assessed separately.

Overview of Assessment
Assessment is ongoing throughout the semester and will consist of both theory and practical based exercises, predominantly in class but some out of class research and information formatting is required as well. Feedback will be provided throughout the semester on all assessment tasks.
All assessment tasks must be completed before competency can be achieved. Tasks that have not be authenticated in class as the student’s own work will not be considered for assessment. Regular attendance is encouraged.

Assessment Tasks
1. Leather shapes
Students will individually complete the practical assessment of using the Shape templates to mark out and then cut from the leather provided.
Then to skive and fold the required edges as required.
Students will also sew lining to the leather shapes as to simulate the edge of a top line or back seam as required.
2. Court shoe uppers
Students will individually complete the practical assessment of selecting suitable leather and tracing the correct pattern on to leather supplied.
Students will cut the traced pattern pieces using the industry method of manual clicking.
Students are to present the uppers pieces to the assessor for inspection and feedback BEFORE moving onto the next stage of production.
This course is assessed in accordance with the competency-based assessment. To demonstrate competency in this course you will need to complete the following pieces of assessment to a satisfactory standard. You will receive feedback from the teacher at the conclusion of each assessment task.

Penalties for late Submission of Assignments
