Course Description

This unit of competency describes skills and knowledge required to function independently in developing strategies to practise within the current and future health care environment taking into account the Australian health care system

1.1 Apply the principles of primary health care and wellness principles to own work role
1.2 Identify and access appropriate agencies to facilitate positive health outcomes for clients
1.3 Take into account the socio-cultural factors that may impact on the health of each client
1.4 Recognise and incorporate into practice the social influences that impact on health and illness
1.5 Work with an awareness of the political, economic and social impacts on health care delivery
1.6 Work with an awareness of non-western models of health care delivery and their place in contemporary practice
1.7 Apply strategies within own work role to maintain standards of care within the contemporary health care system
1.8 Apply knowledge of major considerations in the provision of health care for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples
1.9 Apply knowledge of multiculturalism, health issues and health care practices facing peoples from places other than Australia

Overview of Assessment

Underpining knowledge of this unit of conmpetency will be assessed via the following methods:

  • Class group presentation
  • Written Assessment
  • Classroom Activities


Assessment Tasks

Assessment 1 Poster Presentation (Due in class on the 17th of April, 2015)
Students will work in groups of 4-6 as allocated by the teacher
Create a poster in your groups and undertake a group poster presentation in class
Assessment 2 Online Workbook (Due by 11pm on the 28th of April, 2015)
Students will be required to research answers on the internet and in resources provided
Completion of Online Workbook to a satisfactory level
Assessment 3 Class Activities (Due during each related class – 26th March, 14th & 17th April)
LAB 1, 2 & 3 session attendance and participation
Completion of all activities during LABS for submission
Assessment 4 Clinical Placement (Due by the 1st Monday on completion)
Attendance of Clinical LABS & WARD DAYS for skills practice and/or assessment
Satisfactory completion of Clinical Placement as determined by the Clinical Coordinator

One further opportunity to demonstrate Clinical Lab competence, will be provided to students if not deemed Satisfactory at the time of clinical assessment.
