Course Description

This unit specifies the mandatory requirements of occupational health and safety and how they apply to the various electrotechnology work functions. It encompasses responsibilities for health and safety, risk management processes at all operative levels and adherence to safety practices as part of the normal way of doing work.

Performance Criteria:

1.1 Instruction in hazards and risk control measures for
specific work functions and work areas are
identified and obtained.
1.2 Work area access permits are obtained from
appropriate personnel according to established

isolation are carried out to prevent creation of
hazards from loss of machine/system/process
control according to established procedures.
1.4 Tools and equipment needed for the work are
checked for safety and correct functionality

Learning and simulated work activities to demonstrate an understanding and documentation of Occupational Health and Safety, which includes:
Classroom learning activities involve the following topics:
Electrical conditions, Energy levels,
Radiation levels, Toxic substances, Airborne particles,
Pressure discharge, Explosive atmosphere, Work-site
location, General work-site conditions, Specific work
location, Moving parts, Tools and equipment, Workers
competence and/or capacity and/or personal effects

Teaching Schedule

This competency will be delivered in conjunction with EEET 6780C "Solve problems in multiple path d.c. circuits" and "EEET 6775C Solve problems in extra LV circuits". Please refer to EEET6775C course guide  for weekly teaching schedules and assessments details.

Overview of Assessment

This is a progressive assessment, the students are required to undertake summative assessments as follows:
• Written assignment related to Occupational Health and Safety
• Practical demonstration in simulated workplace

Assessment Tasks

This Competency is taught in conjunction with “UEENEEE003B Solve problems in extra LV circuits" and "UEENEEE004B Solve problems in multiple path d.c. circuits" of the total mark for each assessment in order to pass the competency successfully.

This competency is delivered in conjunction with “UEENEEE003B Solve problems in extra LV circuits" and "UEENEEE004B Solve problems in multiple path d.c. circuits" therefore teaching schedule and assessments include three competencies under the same cluster: Electrical Fundamentals & OHS.

This course is graded using the following course grades-

* This course is delivered in a cluster (Electrical Fundamentals and OH&S) in conjunction with EEET6775C and EEET6780C (Solve problems in extra LV circuits and Solve problems in multiple path d.c. circuits).
   All the learning and assessment activities will include the components of All competencies UEENEE004B, UEENEE003B and UEENEE001B.
* In this cluster, minimum student directed hours are 30 in addition to 70 scheduled teaching hours.
* Student directed hours involve completing activities such as reading online resources, assignments, project work, individual student-teacher course-related consultation, and writing lab reports.
