Course Description

This course is the first of two elective courses (HWSS2171 and HWSS2172) that together will provide you with the opportunity to develop knowledge and skills needed to work in the alcohol and other drugs (AOD) and community mental health (non-clinical) sectors. In this foundational course you will learn about different classes of drugs and their varying impacts on individuals, families and communities. You will be introduced to a range of services, as well as resources and approaches to working with clients with AOD issues in the AOD sector. You will have opportunities to apply this knowledge to the comprehensive assessment of individual client needs, the development of case plans and referral to other services as required.
