Top of pagePurpose of the Program
The Bachelor of Construction Management (Honours) will develop the theoretical knowledge and technical skills to enable you to work effectively as a construction management professional. In doing so, you will develop the skills and knowledge required to meet the industry need for specialisation. This program has been structured to develop your knowledge of the construction process in the wider social, environmental, regulatory, technical and economic contexts.
The courses in this program have been designed to enable you to critically engage with contemporary construction management theory, situating your learning in the wider industry context. The program is designed to enable you to undertake project-based learning to equip you with the skills required by the construction industry. The delivery of this program is primarily face to face, with some online learning components.
Through your learning in this program you will critically evaluate and apply construction management concepts and methodologies including building your knowledge in key areas including building design, building services, construction methods and processes, procurement and supply chains, sustainability, economics and resource management. In doing so, you will develop your ability to formulate and justify evidenced based solutions to industry problems.
Your developed specialised skills will be underpinned by your research and investigative skills, and your ability to critically assess the increasingly complex construction management industry and market. As a critical thinker, you will be able to apply your well-developed analytical skills to critically review, interpret and synthesise construction management theory and knowledge.
Your developed discipline specific and interdisciplinary knowledge of construction management practice and principles will be applicable to a range of organisational contexts and construction industry settings and will enable you to contribute effectively to the management of the construction process.
Your program includes the opportunity to take a Minor stream of study which will complement the learning outcomes in your program.
In the final year, you will complete a project-based capstone course BUIL1262 Construction Capstone Project in which you will synthesise and integrate your knowledge and skills, connect theory and practice, as well as demonstrate your holistic understanding of the program's learning outcomes.
Upon successful completion of this program you will be able to work independently and collaboratively, be equipped with a sound knowledge of construction management strategies, production factors and the industrial environment within local and global contexts and will be able to independently analyse industry trends, current and emerging. You will have developed the specialised skills and knowledge to enable you to work as a construction management specialist in a range of roles including as a: chartered builder, chartered quantity surveyor and a chartered building surveyor.
Successful completion of this program provides a pathway into a Masters program at RMIT University.

Successful completion of C5405 Diploma of Project Management guarantees entry into this program with 96 credit points of exemptions (equivalent to 1 year full-time study). The remaining duration is 3.5 years for the February intake and 3 years for the July intake.
Successful completion of C5415 Diploma of Building and Construction (Building) guarantees entry into this program with 96 credit points of exemptions (equivalent to 1-year full-time study).
Successful completion of C6161 Advanced Diploma of Building Design (Architectural) guarantees entry into this program with 120 credit points of exemptions (equivalent to 1.25-years full-time study).
After successfully completing at least 6 first year common courses in the program structure with no more than 2 repeats, you can apply for entry into the Bachelor of Project Management (Honours) or Bachelor of Property Development, Investment and Valuation (Honours).
If you have already developed areas of skill and knowledge included in this program (for example, through prior studies or work experience), you can apply for credit once you have enrolled in this program.
An Honours program is recognised as providing preparation for a higher degree such as a research Masters or Doctorate (PhD). When you successfully complete this program you may be eligible to undertake further studies in related postgraduate research programs at RMIT University or other universities, subject to each program's entry requirements.

You must have successfully completed an Australian Year 12 (or equivalent senior secondary school) qualification.

Prerequisites
Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 30 in English (EAL) or at least 25 in English other than EAL; Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 20 in any Mathematics.
International English language requirement

The BH114 program is currently accredited under the program title 'Bachelor of Applied Science (Construction Management) (Honours)’ by the Australian Institute of Building (AIB), the Australian Institute of Quantity Surveyors (AIQS), the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) and the Chartered Institute of Builders (CIOB).
The updated program title of Bachelor of Construction Management (Honours) and associated program structure changes are being reported to accrediting bodies through their annual reporting processes.
Provided these accrediting bodies accept the updated program title and program structure changes, on successful completion of Bachelor of Construction Management (Honours) graduates will be entitled to apply for professional membership of the Australian Institute of Building (AIB), the Australian Institute of Quantity Surveyors (AIQS), the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) and the Chartered Institute of Builders (CIOB).
The Construction Management Program is informed by consultation with an Industry Advisory Committee, whose membership is drawn from the construction and property industry. This committee helps inform program development and ensure that program content and student learning outcomes remain closely aligned with the needs of future employers. In addition, academic staff maintain connections with industry to develop and deliver work integrated learning experiences as well as offer advice on professional careers.

Once you are enrolled as a student in this program you will need to allow for expenses other than university tuition fees.
