Learning outcomes

Program Learning Outcomes Statement

The program will prepare graduates with the required supply chain management and general business understanding, knowledge, skills and attitudes to enable them to immediately contribute to organisational objectives at the appropriate entry level.  The program is built around the following eight dimensions of graduate capabilities resulting from a stakeholder consultation process. The stakeholders consulted for this purpose includes, but are not limited to, alumni, industry (prime employers, students and the teaching staff), overseas partners and overseas teaching staff. The eight capability dimensions are listed below.

The above capability dimensions are not mutually exclusive. However, these capability dimensions provide a “balanced approach” to the logistics and supply chain management and the generic business management practices. Each of these capability dimensions focuses on the specific areas that the stakeholders have stressed the need for graduates of this program to be capable of. In structuring the program, each of the above capability dimensions is broken into a number of capability statements as shown in Table 2. Each of the capability statements has been transformed in to relevant “enabling knowledge and skills” and embedded in the relevant course curriculum.

1. Generic Business Management
Capabilities
All students in the Business Portfolio enrol in a common set of 8 courses referred to as the 'common core'. The courses are designed to introduce you to the basic principles and practices that underpin the required business knowledge and skills that form the basis of your studies in the BBus (L&SCM) (App). While each of the courses has its own specific set of capabilities (as detailed in the individual Course Guides) the capabilities listed below provide an overview of these common core units.

i. Reflective practice: ability to reflect on experiences, employ conceptual frameworks, to relate these to similar and dissimilar contexts, to inform and improve future practice
ii. Analyse different types of problems, the contexts in which they exist and develop and apply solutions based on approaches you have learnt in your studies
iii. Use the technical tools and language of the field.
iv. Express ideas, concepts and arguments in a logical and coherent written form and in conformity with relevant standards of academic writing.
v. Recognise the uncertainty of business decision-making
vi. Identify, understand, distinguish and interpret basic legal concepts.
2. Supply chain Management Practice Capabilities i. Ability to understand and implement concepts, techniques and applications that underpin supply chain management
ii. Ability to apply systemic thinking to manage a supply chain
iii. Ability to integrate, co-ordinate, and synchronise activities of a supply chain
iv. Ability to link strategic and operational system thinking with appropriate action to inform and facilitate day-to-day decisions in supply chain management (ability to integrate, collaborate and synchronize)
v. Ability to articulate and deliver quality outcomes in a customer focused environment
vi. Ability to practice effective logistics and supply chain management within legal, regulatory, business, and ethical frameworks in local and international environment
3. Logistics Internal Integration Operations Capabilities i. Ability to source, adopt and utilise appropriate technology and applications to plan logistics strategies and automate logistics operations
ii. Ability to manage occupational health and safety risks to logistics operations and contribute to a safe working environment
iii. Ability to recognise process improvement drivers
iv. Ability to allocate, manage and control logistic resources (inventory, transport and facilities)
v. Ability to demonstrate strategic awareness of the role of logistics in domestic and international markets
4. Material Management Practice Capabilities i. Ability to understand and implement concepts, techniques and applications that underpin material management operations
ii. Ability to apply systemic thinking to material and process mapping and flow to various business organisations
iii. Ability to purchase, monitor and control materials, information and cash flow
5. Distribution Practice Capabilities i. Ability to understand and implement concepts, techniques and applications that underpin distribution / delivery of goods and services
ii. Ability to demonstrate strategic and operational awareness of the management of distribution of goods and services in domestic and international markets
6. Critical Analysis, Problem Setting and Solving Capabilities i. Ability to forecast and propose plans for cost effective interfaces between logistics and other functional business activities
ii. Ability to apply business and logistic methods and principles to identify problems to improve supply chain management for sustainable practice
iii. Ability to develop and evaluate creative and innovative solutions by applying a range of appropriate resources to plan for material management and physical distribution of goods and services
iv. Ability to deal with changing circumstances by integrating strategic, tactical, and operational thinking and initiating action in an ongoing cycle of research, planning and evaluation
7. Interpersonal and Communication Capabilities i. Ability to communicate effectively to build and maintain relationships with other professional at various levels of business organisation, stakeholders, clients, team members and management
ii. Ability to utilise a broad range of communication strategies (methods, modes and media) to listen, reflect and respond in a professional manner
8. Teamwork and Leadership Capabilities i. Ability to actively engage with and influence a range of people within business environment to achieve stated business goals and objectives
ii. Ability to effectively lead small teams and participate in teamwork
