Approach to learning and assessment

As an apprentice, you will attend the workplace for 4 years. During this period of time, you will be released by your employer 1 day per week for up to 36 weeks each year to attend RMIT city campus for training. The rest of the days during this 4 year period, you work as an apprentice with your employer to gain practical experience at the worksite.

Assessments at RMIT will closely simulate tasks which are done in the electrical industry and most tasks need to be demonstrated to your assessor. The practical assessments will take place in our simualted work environment and be supervised / observed by your assessor.

If you have a long term medical condition, disability and/or other form of disadvantage, it may be possible to negotiate to vary aspects of the learning or assessment methods. You can contact the program manager for plumbing, or the RMIT Disability Liaison Unit if you would like to find out more.

Work integrated learning

RMIT University is committed to providing you with an education that strongly links formal learning with workplace experience.

As an apprentice enrolled in this RMIT University program, you will be assessed by a qualified assessor on structured activities that allow you to learn, apply and demonstrate vocational competency which closely simulate workplace scenarios in the plumbing sector.

You will be learning while at work as an apprentice. Feedback from work supervisors and others in the workplace can also be used to assist the assessor in determining your competency.
