Purpose of the Program

This qualification is part of a nationally accredited Training package CPP Property Services and was developed by the Construction and Property Services Industry Skills Council first released with CPP Property Services Training Package Release 14.0.

This qualification reflects the role of entry-level technicians who work under supervision to assist a surveying or spatial information services team.

Survey technicians perform a range of duties using surveying tools and equipment, including total stations and global navigation satellite systems (GNSS), supported by data management skills.

Spatial information services technicians perform a range of duties using geospatial technologies and specialised software, supported by data management skills.

Articulation and pathways

Successful completion of the Certificate IV in Surveying and spatial information services guarantees entry into the Diploma of Surveying. 

Successful completion of the Diploma of Surveying guarantees entry into the Advanced Diploma of Surveying.

External accreditation and industry links

This qualification is part of a nationally accredited Training Package CPP Property Services and was developed by the Construction and Property Services Industry Skills Council. Students of the Certificate IV in Surveying and Spatial Information Services, who have essential practical experience are eligible to apply for student memberships of the Surveying and Spatial Sciences Institute and the Institution of Surveyors Victoria. 

The School has a very strong Industry Advisory Committee, which is the main link between the program and industry. Membership includes staff from local and regional surveying companies and government instrumentalities. The committee meets twice a year and provides feedback on the currency of our programs, the changing needs of industry and has provided input into the customisation of the current program from the Training Package.

Student expenses and charges in addition to fees

Once you are enrolled as a student in this program you will need to allow for expenses other than university tuition fees.  Additional expenses may relate to the purchase of lecture notes, textbooks, stationery, consumables such as printer paper, fees levied by commercial internet service providers for internet access outside of the university campus, and other relevant costs.

Library, IT and specialist resources

As a student enrolled in a program at RMIT University you can access the extensive services, facilities and study space provided by the Library. Through our document delivery service you can also request items from any library in the world.

Library staff can show you how to find information for your assignments or you can work through web-based tutorials or use our online Ask a Librarian service.

The Library is continually expanding our electronic collections to make it easier for you to get the information you need when you need it. All RMIT University students have unlimited access to quality electronic resources such as, e-books, e-journals and newspapers.

As a student enrolled in an RMIT University program you may access many of the extensive collections of electronic resources and services provided from the RMIT University Library in Melbourne. Resources include e-books, electronic journals and newspapers and product data. Library subject guides and web based tutorials will support your learning.

Electronic resources and the online Ask a Librarian reference service are accessible on and off campus 24 hours per day.
