Approach to learning and assessment
This program is delivered full time over 1 year for 2 semesters (17 weeks per semester with 34 weeks of total full-time delivery) or part time, 2 evenings per week and 2-4 Saturdays per semester over a 3-year period.
The part time delivery is only offered to the mature aged students who have full time work commitments.Part time study during the day is available to you through consultation with the Program Coordinator to meet your individual needs, this might be actioned for students needing to balance work and study commitments or for students with ELPs (Equitable Learning Plans).
You will undertake practical work to apply their skills to many of the units. This practical work is carried out within the studio environment where you can practice your technical skills with the support of skilled teachers and technical staff. There are many units in this program which are clustered together to deliver better learning outcomes. You will gain underpinning knowledge and practical skills based on real industry-based context through these clustered units.
You will develop skills in:
- drawing, painting and illustration techniques
- design and concept development
- digital folio design
- Understanding and producing textile structures
- textile knowledge and contemporary practice in the textiles industry
You will also present concepts using computer-aided design techniques. Practical workshops will develop your skills in design and construction for screen-printing, machine knitting and weaving, incorporating an understanding of fibres and dye technology.
Discipline practice by the learners is needed to achieve the best results for the individual, this extra time is encouraged to be pursued by learners in their own time. As with any creative pursuit, a learner will be able to achieve more if more time is spent in the practice of the various skills learned in class time.
Therefore, this program includes a variety of learning activities such as:
- Tutorials
- Industry activities in a simulated environment
- Work Integrated Learning (WIL) simulations such as practical activities based on real-life situations
- Workshop activities
- Projects and assessments
- Excursions and industry visits
The program is delivered in clusters to align complementary units of competency for delivery and assessment.
