Approach to learning and assessment

The approach to learning and assessment for this program will include both supervised and non-supervised forms of training delivery.

Supervised training is teacher directed learning and assessment activities. Learning and assessment will use a range of methods including:

  • classes are delivered on Campus (City) that are designed to provide maximum class interaction, discussion and development of ideas and skills
  • online classes for select theory based topics specialist guest speakers to provide insights into current workplace practices
  • extensive online resources and support of both the content areas and the study skills to support learning
  • both group and individual opportunities for learning and assessment support for students to develop language, literacy and numeracy skills required to succeed in the program
  • assessment that are designed to prepare you for work-ready performance and/or further study

The program will enable you to gain skills and knowledge that are directly applicable to workplace practices. Peer learning and networking will be fostered throughout the program through the use of an online learning system. Discussions and group work with other students will be a key part of your learning.

Assessment occurs in each unit of competency in the program and incorporates a range of methods to assess performance and the application of the required knowledge and skills. Assessment tasks will include:

  • role plays: demonstration of practical skills in a range of formats including simulations and workplace activities
  • case-studies: written reflections
  • presentations

You will also need to work independently, and this will include: independent study activities such as research, reading, practical and/or theoretical practice tests or assessments

Program transition plan

The PSP50916 Diploma of Interpreting (LOTE- English) will be replaced by PSP50922 Diploma of Interpreting (Spoken Language). This is because of national changes to this qualification, which include changes to some of the courses in the program. If you complete all the requirements of your current PSP50916 Diploma of Interpreting (LOTE English), you will be eligible to graduate with PSP50916 Diploma of Interpreting (LOTE English). If you are unable to complete this program in the required timeframe, we will support you to transfer to the new PSP50922 Diploma of Interpreting (Spoken Language).
