Purpose of the Program

The objectives of this program are to build on knowledge and skills that you have obtained through completing relevant work experience or through completing the Diploma of Screen and Media (Content Creation).  You will develop broad skills and knowledge while also gaining the expertise to specialise in different areas. On successful completion of this program you will be able to undertake roles that require you to analyse, design and execute judgements across the wide-ranging technical, creative, conceptual or managerial areas in the film, television and digital media industries. You will develop skills which allow you to work effectively as part of a team and also the skills to lead and manage a team.

You will undertake advanced learning in the following areas, which will assist with your transition into the world of screen content production.

The program focuses on skills deepening to provide you with all the practical and theoretical knowledge required to transition into the local and overseas screen content industry

Articulation and pathways

Successful completion of the Advanced Diploma of Screen and Media (Directing) guarantees entry into the BP343 Bachelor of Business with 96 credit points exemption.

Upon successful completion of the Advanced Diploma of Screen and Media (Directing) you may be eligible for entry and credit into one of the following programs:

BP221 Bachelor of Communication (Media)

BP201 Bachelor of Arts (Fine Art)

Entrance requirements

Domestic Applicants 

  • PTR/LLN RMIT Minimum requirements
  • Successful completion of the C5412 Diploma of Screen and Media (Content Creation) or equivalent 

OR 

  • Minimum of 2 years Industry experience equivalent to a C5412 Diploma of Screen and Media (Content Creation). 

Applicants applying via industry experience must present a supporting folio and CV that demonstrates well-developed conceptual and practical skills and knowledge in preproduction, production, and post-production. This is to include experience with directing, production management, audio recording, camera operation, script writing, editing and visual effects. 

International Applicants

  • Successful completion of the Diploma of Screen and Media (Content Creation) or equivalent

OR

  • Minimum of 2 years industry experience equivalent to the Diploma of Screen and Media (Content Creation)

Applicants applying via industry experience must present a supporting folio and CV that demonstrates well-developed conceptual and practical skills and knowledge in preproduction, production, and post-production. This is to include experience with directing, production management, audio recording, camera operation, script writing, editing and visual effects. 

International English language entry requirements:

  • IELTS – 5.5+ (no band less than 5.0) or TOEFL paper based – 530+ (TWE - 3.5+) or TOEFL (iBT) overall score 71, minimum 17 in all sections)

External accreditation and industry links

In Australia there are no professional bodies that recognise or accredit programs in Screen and Media. However, this program is strongly supported by representatives from key industry areas. Course content and assessment is informed by industry through the Industry Advisory Committee. The teachers in the program are all practitioners with current knowledge of trends and work practices. The industry experience you gain through your study will help you to establish industry links, in a range of areas across the screen and media industry.

Over the last 5 years, graduates of the program have gained employment in all areas of the television, film and screen content industries and are successfully working throughout Australia and Asia.

Student expenses and charges in addition to fees

Once you are enrolled as a student in this program you will need to allow for expenses other than university tuition fees.  Additional expenses may relate to the purchase of lecture notes, textbooks, stationery, consumables such as printer paper, fees levied by commercial internet service providers for internet access outside of the university campus, and other relevant costs.

Library resources and services

As a student enrolled at RMIT University you can use all the services provided by the Library.
