In this program, learning and assessment are integrated, with assessment evidence being collected and feedback provided to you at anytime throughout the learning and assessment process. A range of strategies to meet different learner needs are used and comprise a mixture of: group-based, work-based, project-based, self-paced, action learning-based, conducted by e-learning and by observation of field and laboratory practices. Assessment of the accuracy of the graphical representation of field measurements plays a major role.

Assessments is undertaken throughout the program and includes

  • Practical demonstration of use and skills of equipment,
  • Completion of spreadsheets and written reports
  • Computations, analysis and design
  • Completion of computer reports, and correct use of software applications

Work integrated learning

RMIT University is committed to providing you with an education that strongly links formal learning with professional or vocational practice. As a student enrolled in this RMIT University program, you will:

  • undertake and be assessed on structured activities that allow you to learn, apply and demonstrate your
  • professional or vocational practice;
  • interact with industry and community when undertaking these activities;
  • complete these activities in real work contexts or situations; and
  • these interactions and the work context provide a distinctive source of feedback to you to assist your
  • learning.

Any or all of these aspects of a WIL experience may be in a simulated workplace environment. Although at the present time RMIT does not arrange industry placement, the program is scheduled to run over three days per week and you are encouraged to seek employment in the industry for the remaining two days.

To simulate an industry environment, an emphasis is placed on practical field experience using industry-standard equipment where you will use surveying technologies and software for electronic data capture, processing and presentation.

Guest speakers from industry feature in many classroom sessions and you will be invited to attend seminars and special events organised by the Surveying and Spatial Sciences Institute (SSSI).
