Approach to learning and assessment
Students will participate in their learning experience through:
- Interactive presentations, labs, and tutorials
- Assessments
- Simulated industry activities
- Work Integrated Learning (WIL)
- Workshop / Lab activities
- Structured prescribed reading
- Projects and assignments
- Prescribed follow-up activities
- Discipline practice
The assessment you receive will enable your teachers to provide you with feedback on your strong and weak points. This will enable you to improve your study skills and performance as a lifelong learner in the future.
- Assignments and projects: may be done individually or in groups. This method may also be used to enable you to demonstrate your ability to work alone or as a member of a team.
- Assessed tutorials: a form of in-class test, which may be done individually or as a team.
- Laboratory reports: provide an exercise in experimentation, report writing, critical analysis and presentation of data.
- Project Reports: Demonstrate that you are able to report a significant project, from the planning phases right through to completion where conclusions and recommendations are made.
- Manufacture of parts or tooling: may be assessed against design drawings to ensure parts are made to the specified tolerances and requirements of the design.

Work integrated learning
RMIT University is committed to providing you with an education that strongly links formal learning with professional or vocational practice. As a student enrolled in this RMIT University program you will:
- Undertake and be assessed on structured activities that allow you to learn, apply and demonstrate your professional or vocational practice.
- Interact with industry and community when undertaking these activities.
- Complete these activities in real work contexts or situations.
In addition, these interactions and work contexts provide distinctive sources of feedback to you to assist your learning. Any or all of these aspects of a WIL experience may be simulated.
In this program, you will be doing a specific course(s) that focus on work-integrated learning (WIL). You will be assessed on professional or vocational work in a workplace setting (real or simulated) and receive feedback from those involved in your industry.
