This program is available only as an exit award from the Associate Degree in Aviation (Professional Pilot), for students who choose to exit that program after completing the first year.
This program is designed to provide you with knowledge and skills that will enhance your value in the Aviation Industry environment and will also prepare you to undertake the CASA Private Pilot Licence Theory & Flight tests.
The Diploma of Flying (Private Pilot Licence) provides a tertiary award in conjunction with a structured aviation training program. This program meets the requirements of the Civil Aviation Safety Authority through the provision of theory and practical training up to PPL. The program contains relevant and appropriate courses encompassing cognitive, technical and communication skills.
The program design and associated capability development has been endorsed by a range of Aviation industry experts, consisting of senior aviation experts and operations personnel from Australia's airports and aerospace organisations.

The Diploma of Flying (private Pilot Licence) program conducted by RMIT University Flight Training meets all the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) requirements up to Private Pilot Licence (PPL). You will be prepared to undertake tests for relevant CASA flying licences as well as the relevant CASA theory exams. RMIT will facilitate the relevant CASA flight tests and the associated cost of the first attempt for each flight test is incorporated in the course fee. It is preferable that you sit the CASA tests during the program. All flying activities are conducted under RMIT University's CASA approved Air Operator Certificate (AOC).

Once you are enrolled as a student in this program you will need to allow for expenses other than university tuition fees. Additional expenses may relate to the purchase of lecture notes, textbooks, stationery, consumables such as printer paper, fees levied by commercial internet service providers for internet access outside of the university campus, and other relevant costs.
