Approach to learning and assessment

The program integrates a variety of contemporary learning and teaching approaches. Learning will be in face to face classes, with an option of online tutorials if demand exists, and ‘flipped’ (online) lectures. Courses use a variety of teaching approaches including seminars, studios, lectures and tutorials and use methods such as collaborative group work, negotiated learning, peer review, presentations, exercises, workshops and discussion. You may have an opportunity to undertake a study tour in which you will create a media project with international partners. You can also expect to engage with case studies, problem-based learning and reflective techniques such as blogs and journals.

You will learn how to constructively critique your own work and that of others. Peer review and self assessment is integral to the learning environment and subsequently for professional practice within the creative industries.

Assessment involves ‘learning by doing’ and will include a range of activities such as media production projects, written reflection, research projects, portfolios, presentations, peer or industry review. Project proposals and presentations will be directly related to industry specific needs and may involve making contact with industry practitioners regarding contemporary issues.

The assessment you undertake will be designed so that your lecturer and/or peers can provide you with ongoing feedback on strengths and areas for improvement in your learning. This approach will enable you to improve on your performance during the program, as well as continue to refine capabilities for your future professional practice and learning after graduation.

The project produced in your final semester will be a capstone experience designed as a culmination of your learning throughout the program.
