Course Description
This unit covers the skills and knowledge required to participate in product engineering in a textiles, clothing and footwear (TCF) enterprise, in this instance specific to the Footwear industry

Learning Outcomes
In this unit students will develop knowledge and skills associated with communication to interpret production specifications, calculate costs, maintain records and prepare reports. Initiative and enterprise, planning and organising and problem solving are required to examine production options and determine required variations to specifications, processes and schedules. This unit also requires an ability to learn and apply new information. Self management skills are used to ensure work meets quality and work standards.
Details of Learning Activities
Integrated learning consisting of theory and practical components, including guest lecturers/industry experts, relating to product engineering for footwear; carried out in a simulated workplace environment, to enhance the development of the skills and knowledge required to develop footwear product.

Sessions for Product Engineering will be conducted as discussions and/or presentations during scheduled sessions. Where possible Industry contacts via either classroom presentation or workplace visit will aid towards the students knowledge in this unit.

Overview of Assessment
Tasks that have not be authenticated in class as the student’s own work will not be considered for assessment. Regular attendance is necessary. Assessment will consist of both theory and practical based exercises, predominantly in class but some out of class research and information formatting is required as well.
