Course Description
In this unit you will develop the skills and knowledge to plan and prepare to last shoes using hand processes. You will learn to identify and address production problems. Self management skills are developed to ensure safe use of technology and conformance of own work to quality standards.

Details of Learning Activities
Integrated learning consisting of theory and practical components carried out in practical workshops, in a simulated workplace environment, in the skills and knowledge required to develop custom-made footwear product.
Teaching Schedule
Weeks 1 – 18
Practical workshops to Hand last a shoe will be conducted in conjunction with other practical based learning. Workshops will including demonstration of techniques and students will be required to demonstrate their ability to hand last a shoe for each pair of shoes produced for assessment.
Week 1-5 Development of Court Shoe - 1Pair
Week 6-12 Development of Derby Shoe - 1Pair
Week 13-18 Development of Oxford Shoe - 1Pair

Overview of Assessment
Assessment is ongoing throughout the semester and will consist of both theory and practical based exercises, predominantly in class but some out of class research and information formatting is required as well. Feedback will be provided throughout the semester on all assessment tasks.
All assessment tasks must be completed before competency can be achieved. Tasks that have not be authenticated in class as the student’s own work will not be considered for assessment. Regular attendance is encouraged.

Assessment Tasks
Student will demonstrate and answer relevant questions regarding the knowledge and skills required to hand last a shoe to a competent standard.
Student will submit for assessment a minimum of 2 pairs of shoes (students choose which two of the three shoe styles they make to be assessed). Shoes to be produced to a required industry standard, included in the production of these shoes, student will demonstrate how to hand last a shoe using safe & efficient methods.
