Course Description

Provide the participant with the knowledge of structural principles as they apply in the building process in order that they may communicate effectively with building design professionals, and develop sound and safe practices in relation to structural procedures on site

Learning Outcomes

This course will provide the learner to develop knowledge & skills and able to:
• Describe basic structural requirements.
• Determine the loads on structure.
• Explain the effects of force and moments:
• Describe the properties and behaviour of structural materials.
• Describe the section properties of structural elements and their effect on structural performance:
• Describe the properties of spanning elements.
• Describe the properties of columns.
• Describe the factors affecting the design of connections between structural elements.
• Outline the wind bracing requirements for simple industrial buildings.
