Course Description

In this course students produce sculpture through the exploration and application of a range of techniques, tools, equipment and materials.

The course introduces students to the complex relationship between the development of concepts and their synthesis with the manipulation of materials, as a fundamental basis for the production of sculpture. The basic skills are necessary for individual decisions, choices, practices and further investigations.

Details of Learning Activities

Students will be introduced to basic skills, new techniques and research which will broaden their understanding of the production of sculpture and development of concepts
.
Students will use appropriate tools and equipment in the production of sculpture.

Students will be required to commit themselves to their studio practice both externally and within the scheduled contact hours.
 
Research and investigation into their areas of study will be ongoing.

Suitable clothing clothing will be worn in the studio. Safe practice and an understanding of Occupational Health and Safety  in the work place will be observed at all times.


Teaching Schedule

This module will will introduce students to the complex relationship between the development of concepts and their synthesis with the manipulation of materials, as a fundamental basis for the production of sculpture.

Students will be required to complete a minimum of four projects during the semester

Drawings and evidence of research  will be included
   
Students will be required to provide a visual journal which clearly demonstrates originality and an understanding of sculptural production and personal development.

Students will present a minimum of one piece of work from each project at the conclusion of the module

Overview of Assessment

Folio presentation marked by a panel, with written response.


Assessment Tasks

Assessment is conducted at the end of each semester through folio presentatio in studio based courses.

Assessment is conducted by a panel of staff at each year level in studio course assessments. The panel will view all studio based courses in the folioand respond with a grade and written response, their comments reflecting an overview of the folio.

Students’s folios must be produced in consultation with appropriate staff, reflecting the projects and workshops conducted during that semester.

All works included in the folio must be sighted by the relevant staff before submission. Unsighted, untutored works will not be accpted for assessment.

Selection of works for inclusion in the folio will be part of the teaching process.
