Course Description
This course covers the skills and knowledge required for the development and presentation of garment design concepts to the client within specified enterprise guidelines.
Students will:
1. Research fashion trends identifying market categories, themes, colours/texture/fabrics and garment types and details
2. Work in a team or consult with peers on design concepts
3. Apply advanced trade sketching techniques including design specifications to industry standards
4. Apply advanced presentation skills when preparing range concepts and specifications
5. Demonstrate use of both manual and CAD techniques
6. Consider point of sale/price point constraints when designing and prepare relevant specifications
7. Work to design brief requirements including point of sale/price point constraints
8. Develop presentation techniques for specialist fashion categories including men’s and children’s wear.

Overview of Assessment
Tasks that have not been authenticated in class as the student’s own work will not be considered for assessment. Regular attendance is necessary to demonstrate that you can:
Produce advanced accurate trade sketches and presentation drawings by following design brief.
• Producing templates for specialist fashion categories including children’s and menswear.
• Use a variety of media, techniques, formates and presentation styles to professional standards.
• Complete research project in fashion trends.
• Explore the use of computer aided design as a media for presentation to industry standards.
• Written design rationale as required.
• Produce accurate garment design specifications.
• Produce costing specifications.
• Participate in the presentation of garment designs to a group as required.
