Course Description

The purpose of this module is to provide participants with the skills, knowledge and attitudes required to investigate and apply various media’s in public art projects.

1. Integrate diverse materials into appropriate and creative solutions
2. Use diverse techniques and technologies to produce contemporary/innovative public art i.e.
• computer generated images and projection
• water and light
• moulded plastic and flowers
• hot air and inflated objects
• traditional materials in innovative ways

Details of Learning Activities

•    Explore non-traditional Public Art media including mobile phones, computer generated imagery and light works
•    Explore traditional Public Art media and methods including wall painting, casting and construction
•    Explore outsourcing of production and fabrication for Public Art projects.

Learning is project based with particular media studies integrated into project work through the semester.

A series of projects and accompanying visual diaries
Portfolio of work – studies, projects and workshop outcomes developed throughout the year as class projects

Students already working in the field of public art have the opportunity to negotiate projects for assessment in the context of Work Integrated Learning.

Assessment Tasks

•    Presentation of project documentation demonstrating learnings in the area
•    Participation in workshop and class activities exploring Public Art media.

    Alternative Assessment
    Participants already working in the field of Public Art or a related area have the opportunity to negotiate projects for assessment in the context of work integrated learning.
