Course Description

This unit covers the skills and knowledge to modify patterns to create basic styles.

Performance Criteria:

1.1 Pattern pieces are identified.
1.2 Pattern markings are identified.
1.3 Required style modifications are identified.
1.4 Pattern components are checked against pattern specification sheet .

Performance Criteria:

2.1 Garment requirements are confirmed.
2.2 Fabric performance characteristics that may affect style modifications
are identified.
2.3 Patternmaking tools and equipment are selected and prepared.
2.4 Basic sketch of required modification is prepared.

3. Modify and finalise pattern

Performance Criteria:

3.1 Modifications are made applying basic patternmakingprinciples .
3.2 Pattern pieces are checked for accuracy, including seam allowances,
ease allowance, seam match, hems and functional openings.
3.3 Pattern pieces are labelled, including grain lines, notches, pattern
information and cutting instructions.
3.4 OHS practices are identified and followed.
3.5 Action is taken according to OHS practices to prevent accidents and to
eliminate risks to personal safety.



Learning Outcomes


In this unit you will develop the skills and knowledge required in the modification of existing styled patterns to create new styles with minimal modification. Pattern and garment terminology, as well as the correct use of tools and equipment are also applied.


Details of Learning Activities

The course is integrated with LMTCL3009B Develop patterns from a block using basic patternmaking principles to form a cluster or learning program called Pattern Technology

In this course you will be involved in theoretical and practical tasks.
You will develop the skill to -
• measure and assess fit requirement
• develop patterns from a base size block
• determine style variation and detail
• Assess silhouettes
• Modify patterns
• standard operation procedures to label and identify final pattern components
• maintain accurate records though development of student notes and course hand outs
• Use trade sketches to identify information and finalise pattern specification sheets
•recording and reporting practices
•You will be expected to attend, participate and complete each progressive task to the required standard, to be eligible to be assessed and to continue with the next task.
• As well as class activities you will be required to undertake research and assessment practise outside of regular class times.
• You are reminded of the learning expectation that you will complete an equal amount of research time outside of class as you do in class to demonstrate your understanding and to be deemed competent in this course.

This course comprises both practical and theory components. You will be expected to attend and participate in class activities.


As well as class activities you will be required to undertake research and assessment practice outside of regular class times and participate in formal assessment tasks.
