Course Description
This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to facilitate all aspects of teamwork within the organisation. It involves taking a leadership role in the development of team plans, leading and facilitating teamwork and actively engaging with the management of the organisation.

Details of Learning Activities
Your team is to plan to make the Conference Event held this semester to be carbon neutral. Your team will research ways to make the event "green" and apply your learning to creating a carbon neutral event. Assign a Team Leader as early as possible. Your learning is action based and you will apply theory to practice drawing on the textbook theory around.
Some learning activities will include a self-directed learning approach such as reading the textbook prior to class. Working cohesively with your team is essential to your learning experience. Apart from this fact you will learn from workplace research, library assignments, fieldwork and work placements.

Overview of Assessment
Assessment may incorporate a variety of methods including technical requirements documentation, homework, assignments, group and/or individual projects, in class exercises, written and practical assessments, problem solving exercises, direct observation of actual and simulated work practice, presentation of portfolio of evidence which may comprise documents, and/or photographs and/or video and audio files, review of products produced through work based or course activities.
Students are advised that they are likely to be asked to personally demonstrate their assessment work to their teacher to ensure that the relevant competency standards are being met. Students will be provided with feedback throughout the course to check their progress.
Assessment Tasks
Critical Aspects:
Evidence of the following is essential:
1. That a range of techniques that can be used to build work teams, strengthen communications in the team and resolve issues.
2. Methods for engaging with stakeholders and obtaining advice from outside the work team, to ensure team is focussed and on track.
3, Knowledge of group behaviour.
The student must demonstrate competence in all elements to be deemed competent in this unit.
TASK 1
Team Project Brief:
Task 1 consists of four parts. You will receive feedback and a grade for each part during the semester. Using the marking guide in myRMIT you will play an active role in your team in developing within your team what’s new in terms of sustainability for events and report on your own progress, ask questions, share information and for problem-solving and ideas-generating discussion. Your team will bring its ideas progressively responding to Parts A-D over the semester to make the Conference Carbon Neutral. Note that an event can be carbon offset by fundraising for a sustainable charity as a renewable approach to purchasing carbon credits in business operations. Due dates see above schedule.
Assessment Tasks
This is a team assessment. Your individual contribution is assessment. Your team and you must achieve CA grade for all 4 parts of Task 1 to be deemed competent in this course. Feedback on your individual work and team work is given in class, weekly.
Submission Requirements
Assessment tasks need to be via electronic submission from the students via MyRMIT and then hard copies handed in during class.
Late Submission Procedures
You are required to submit assessment items and/or ensure performance based assessment is completed by the due dates.
If you are prevented from submitting an assessment item on time, by circumstances outside your control, you may apply in advance to your teacher for an extension to the due date of up to seven calendar days.

Resubmissions:
If you are found to be Not Yet Competent in a Course Assessment Task you will be allowed one resubmission only. Your teacher will provide feedback regarding what you need to do to improve and will set a new deadline for the resubmission. The highest grade you will receive if your resubmission is successful is "CAG".
If you are still not meeting the assessment requirements you must apply to your Program Manager in writing outlining the steps you will take to demonstrate competence in your course. Your submission will be considered by the Program Team and you will be advised of the outcome as soon as possible.

You should:
• Ensure that you submit assessments on or before the due date. If your performance in the assessment is affected by unexpected circumstances, you should consider applying for Special Consideration. Information on the process and application forms is available at myRMIT and check links in your Student Diary.
• Always retain a copy of your assessment tasks. (hard copy and soft copy)
• When you submit work for assessment at RMIT University you need to use a cover sheet that includes a declaration and statement of authorship. You must complete, sign and submit a cover sheet with all work you submit for assessment, whether individual or group work. On the cover sheet you declare that the work you are presenting for assessment is your own work. An assignment cover sheet for submission of work for assessment is available on blackboard.
• Each page of your assessment should include footer with your name, student number, the title of the assessment, unit code and title and page numbers.
Assessment tasks need to be submitted via the dropbox in the week due.
Marking Guide:
Vocational Education and Training (VET) is based on current industry needs and the focus on preparing you for the workplace. Because VET courses are informed by practical application of knowledge and skills, they are based on a system known as ‘competency based training’ (CBT). So when you are assessed in VET it is about whether you are competent to do the job, as well as having a firm grasp on the knowledge and skills required to do that job, as opposed to traditional curriculum based education settings that are often based on knowledge retention.
You need to demonstrate you are competent in each element of the unit of competency you are studying.
You will receive feedback on each assessment task that will inform you whether you are competent or not and how well you are performing. Once competent in all elements of the unit you receive a competency grading.

After achieving competency we then grade your performance in the unit; this gives you the opportunity to have the level of your performance formally recognized against industry standards and employability skills.
The grading is according to the following criteria:
1. LEVEL OF INDEPENDENCE, INITIATIVE, ENTERPRISE AND PERFORMANCE OF WORK TASK
You will show that you can work autonomously and in a group, demonstrating your knowledge of group theory and applying strong interpersonal skills. You will be able to schedule strategies and make your contribution to the team within the required deadline. You will be noticeably involved in all activities, excursion, team meetings, collation of assessment work.
2. DEMONSTRATED BREADTH OF UNDERPINNING KNOWLEDGE AND A WILLINGNESS TO CONTINUE LEARNING
You will plan for your learning needs in order to meet the team requirements described in the Task 1. You will apply theory to practice drawing from the textbook and applying it to your situation of creating a Green Sustainable Conference. You will follow legislative and regulatory requirements to ensure the safety and security of the organisation’s (your team/RMIT/stakeholders) information. You will be noticeably involved in all activities, excursion, Team meetings, and collation of assessment work.
3. TECHNIQUES & PROCESSES, TECHNOLOGY SKILLS AND PROBLEM SOLVING
Your business documents will be presented professionally and the content organised logically and its appearance is outstanding showing superior command of English. Your documents will be free of formatting errors. You will anticipate problems and solve them using a risk management and contingency approach. You will demonstrate your research skills as a group, innovating for a "Green Sustainable Conference". You will be noticeably involved in all activities, Team meetings, collation of assessment work.
4. WORK ORGANISATION, PLANNING AND SELF MANAGEMENT
You will not miss any deadlines, allocate resources and ensure organisational requirements are met. You will collect, collate and analyse appropriate information storing data in the RMIT business system. You will strategise to meet client/stakeholder needs. You will manage communications effectively through excellent time management and organisational skills. You will be noticeably involved in all activities, Excursion, Team meetings, collation of assessment work.
5. COMMUNICATION, PEOPLE NETWORKING, LANGUAGE AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS AND TEAMWORK
You will be able to compose specific written plans, set goals, prioritise goals and schedule your carbon neutral strategies, narrowing your focus and delegating tasks in order to get the team goals met.
