Course Description

In this course you will develop the skills and knowledge required to apply safe work practices, including identifying and reporting faults and problems, according to work health and safety legislation and store policies.

Element:

1. Apply basic safety procedures.
 

Performance Criteria:

1.1.Follow safety procedures  to achieve a safe work environment, according to all relevant WHS legislation, including codes of practice relating to particular hazards in the industry or workplace.

1.2.Identify and report unsafe work practices , including faulty plant and equipment  according to store policy and procedures .

1.3.Manage dangerous goods and substances according to store policy and relevant legislation.

1.4.Identify potential manual handling  risks and manage manual handling tasks according to store policy.

1.5.Report work-related incidents and accidents to designated personnel .

1.6.Participate in consultative processes  and procedures for WHS.

2. Apply basic emergency procedures.

Performance Criteria:

     

2.1.Follow fire and emergency procedures , including store evacuation, according to store policy and legislation.

2.2.Identify designated personnel responsible for first aid and evacuation procedures.

2.3.Accurately identify safety alarms.

Details of Learning Activities

These units will be delivered in class at the city campus. Delivery will include the following.

Discussion, practical demonstrations regarding the safe use, handling and storage of materials, tools & equipment.

Discussion, practical demonstration regarding the appropriate choice of materials, tools & equipment.

Discussion, analysis of workplace safety issues

Design, fabrication or construction of props, Visual Merchandising signage to meetclient needs.

Peer learning

Independent project based work

You will use a range of tools, equipment & materials. techniques, equipment and materials to produce industry standard props, signage and display material for various promotional, branding or client needs.

You will receive feedback with verbal and/or written evaluation of your progress within class time.

The submitted projects will be assessed with written feedback as well as a quality indicator that relates to separate components of the project and the overall outcome.

Late Submission & Extensions
Any student seeking an extension, should aim at doing so a minimum of 2 days before the deadline. Work submitted late and without an extension at any point will incur late penalties in accordance with university policy.

On Time Submission and Impact of Late Submission
On time submission is an important factor in your assessment. Employability skills are embedded in all courses and these include Planning & Organising and Self-management. For this reason, late work impacts on your overall grade for each assessment task.


The following adjustments for late submission will be made. Grades will be reduced by 10%, for each day (or part thereof), for the first two days. If submissions are three days or more late, the work will only be assessed as a pass or fail – and not graded. Submissions seven days or more late, should still be handed in, however they will not be assessed and will be kept as a record only.
