Course Description
This unit describes the skills and knowledge a vocational trainer or assessor requires to identify language, literacy and numeracy (LLN) skill requirements of training and the work environment, and to use resources and strategies that meet the needs of the learner group.
Competence in this unit does not indicate that a person is a qualified specialist adult language, literacy or numeracy practitioner.

Learning Outcomes
This course unit will enable you to:
• specify the critical LLN skills essential to workplace performance in an identified industry or sector
• identify cultural and social sensitivities relevant to communicating with individuals who are identified as requiring LLN support
• identify sources of resources, strategies and LLN support available in own training organisation and procedures for accessing them
• explain techniques for evaluating own training and assessment practice.
Details of Learning Activities
You will participate in class activities such as: anaylysis of case studies, and scenarios, group discussions and working in teams to analyse and apply LLN strategies to a learner group.

Overview of Assessment
Assessment for this unit is by the practical application of your learning and will involve you completing Short Answer questions and a project conducted in your workplace or simulated workplace.
Assessment Tasks
Short Answer Questions on Blackboard (a due date TBA)
Project 1 - Identify and address langauge, literacy and numeracy skills for a learner group
Using a real workplace scenario (preferred) or a realistic, hypothetical scenario to complete all four sections as listed, directions can be found in the Assessment booklet for the LLN unit of competency
1. ID Needs: Analyse and identify the LLN skill needs of a learner group
2. Plan: Identify strategies and resources to address the LLN skill gaps
3. Deliver: Train and assess learners using the support strategies identified
4. Review: Review the effectiveness of the LLN support.
